13 week ultrasound
The 13-week ultrasound will be introduced from September 1st. This ultrasound is part of a scientific study; the IMITAS study.
You can have your baby tested via ultrasound to see if it has a physical abnormality. A physical abnormality means that part of the child’s body looks different from normal. Examples of physical abnormalities are an open back, open skull, hydrocephalus, heart defects, hole in the diaphragm, hole in the abdominal wall, abnormality of the kidneys or abnormality of the bones. The 13 week ultrasound is very similar to the 20 week ultrasound. Between 12+3 and 14+3 weeks, this ultrasound can be performed.
You choose whether you want the 13-week ultrasound.
- How much do you want to know about your baby during pregnancy?
- f you are told that your child has a physical abnormality, what do you want to do?

Cycle Care about the 13 week ultrasound
Until now, the 20-week ultrasound was the time for parents to see if there are serious physical abnormalities in the baby.* At 20 weeks you are already well on your way in your pregnancy and often a belly is already visible. An exciting ultrasound which fortunately in most cases is a relief for the parents because in 95% percent of the cases no abnormalities can be seen in the child.
However, many of the serious physical abnormalities in babies can in most cases be detected much earlier by means of an ultrasound. For example, you can see much faster abnormalities in the heart, an open back or abdomen, but also abnormalities in the brain and limbs.
